Christmas Decor

It is finally here - the happiest time of the year! And boy, do we need it now more than ever. Christmas is a joyous time for everyone, and even though we may not be able to enjoy it fully with others this year, we can still surround ourselves with the joy of Christmas through the decor in our homes.

I’ll be honest - I was not much of a fancy Christmas decorator until I met my fiance’s Dad. He takes it to a whole new level and has inspired me greatly to create trees with a theme and design our home with intention. I mean, just look at some of his work below (forgive me for the quality of the pictures, I’ll get better ones this year).

That leads us to our first imperative piece of Christmas decor - the Christmas tree. Christmas would not be Christmas without a Christmas tree! I grew up going to a Christmas tree farm and picking out our own fresh, live tree. You can’t go wrong with that, but these days I lean towards an artificial tree that you can use year after year. This year, I am particularly fond of flocked trees. There are many different vendors and options, but I would recommend making a good investment so it lasts several years.

To decorate your tree, you need some snazzy ornaments, but you can also jazz it up with other foilage such as berries, pinecones, and glitter leaves. I like to go to a local wholesale vendor named Reeves, but for those who are not able to, Frontgate, Michaels, or Target are great options. When you are placing your ornaments, make sure to fill the large gaps in the middle of the tree first so that you cannot see through it. Use large ornaments and pinecones to accomplish this, and for the most part, save your pretty ornaments for the front branches.

Next, you need some wreaths and garland. I like to use the same or a similar type of garland in the area that the tree is in to maintain a consistent design. For this example, I’ll give you some flocked options. We are in Georgia y’all, so we need all the fake snow we can get! I like to decorate the wreath and garland similar to the tree (another tip from my Fiance’s Dad!) so I use some of the same accessories of pinecones, berries, and glitter foilage throughout the design.

If you have a fireplace mantel, you need some good stockings! We use some cheesy green ones with our initials on them at our house - but you can go as cheesy or as classy as you like. Target has great options at a great price point.

Last but not least, you need some Christmas accessories around the house! I always have some small Christmas trees and reindeer around the house. Sometimes I like to add a festive pillow somewhere too.

There are so many ways you can decorate your home for Christmas. So, get yourself some eggnog, turn up the Christmas music, get in your coziest PJs and go at it!
