When we first think of wood paneling, we don’t exactly think “modern” however, more and more designers have been updating this traditional feature resulting in a wave of mod wood paneling. Here are a few ways you can make wood paneling your own.

  1. Thin Slat Wood Paneling

This has to be my favorite variation of wood paneling at the moment. With the wave of Japanese influenced design, I couldn't be happier about this becoming more of a feature. Running the slats vertically adds height and an illusion of depth to the space. I especially love this in a lighter wood that you can pair with velvet and metal accents.

2. Black Stained Panels

Black wood seems to be here to stay this year and why not. A deep obsidian stain on your paneling is right on trend and uber chic. How much more modern can you get!

3. Shiplap

We all know that grandma that has her whole home shiplapped, but I know I’m not the only one that thinks that is totally chic now. A white shiplap that covers just a few walls vertically is a great way to refresh and update your space.

(Alternatively, horizontal shiplap is just as popular and interesting. It will stretch the room to look wider! Not bad, eh!)

4. Wainscoting

For that extra chic element! Wood paneling doesn’t have to go all the way up to the ceiling. We went to the Southeastern Showhouse recently and the dog grooming station was absolute GOALS. They paired beautiful light wood paneling with terrazzo tile, brass finishes and eggshell paint.
