Declutter Your Life

They say clutter can be more detrimental to you brain than you might think.  One article even states “It can also make us less productive, triggering coping and avoidance strategies that make us more likely to snack on junk and watch TV shows (including ones about other people decluttering their lives).” So with the upcoming holidays approaching (which are ironically one of the most stressful times of the year) we wanted to share some self-care love with you about how we declutter our lives and live with purpose!

  1. Wake up every day with gratitude! Decluttering your mind from negativity or old thoughts that are no longer serving you is more important than any environmental factor weighing you down. Remember, it’s all about taking a deep breath, citing positive affirmations and getting ready to conquer the day! Mental clutter causes anxiety so, deep breaths and remember you go this!

2. Write your thoughts down before you get out of bed. Don’t look at your phone. Take 5 minutes of distraction free time to visualize your day and map out your destinations.

3. Make your bed and keep your nightstand clean! It sounds silly, but its an easy task to complete and it sets order to the tone for your day!

4. Lay out your clothes the night before to make decisions easier!

5. Organize small goods in pretty clear glass containers. Nothing puts your soul at ease like having a clearly defined pantry, refrigerator and bathroom counter! Plus, it makes getting ready in the morning a breeze!

6. Wipe down the kitchen counters and put the dirty dishes in the sink before you go to bed.

7. Toss out old papers and mailings into the recycling bin everyday! No need to let junk pile high so that it becomes the leaning tower of Pisa on your kitchen counter.

8. Check out soothing apps at night to “declutter your mind”. I really like the Calm app and lots of companies are offering free subscriptions right now. I use it while I take a hot bath, letting my mind melt.

Lastly, remember that everything is temporary. You are the master of your universe, and your thoughts are your own. Take a deep breathe, and remember – You’ve got this!
